Dated 28th March 2006.
We are getting reports of
St. Marks Church is due for closure sometime in 2006.
Other statements report that the powers that be within the upper
echelons of the church are still discussing the ins and outs etc. and any legal
aspects of such a move.
We, ourselves are still investigating theses reports and as we get
more of the facts and conclusions in then they will be updated onto this page as
well as being subjected to our communications system.

Sir,
Can you verify if St. Marks Church
is closing down this year. There
seems to be some confusion over this and I
am getting slightly dfferent
explanations.
Can you help
me.
Regards,
Bernard Polson. 27/03/06
Dear Bernard,
Please accept my apologies for the delay in
replying to you.
The congregation of St Mark's, Kingsholm Road,
Gloucester has
recently decided that it cannot continue to support the
building as a
place of worship. It has requested a scheme under the Church of
England
Pastoral Measure, which would legally close the church for C of
E
worship. This scheme is a formal process involving public
consultation,
and will take some months to determine.
It is likely
that the building would close as a C of E place of worship
towards the end of
2006, although it may take some time longer before
its future use is decided.
The Diocesan Redundant Church Uses Committee is seeking a
sympathetic
future use of the building, and would particularly welcome
approaches
from other congregations or faith groups who might be interested
in
using St Mark's.
I hope this answers your query.
Kind
regards
Hannah

Should St. Marks Church be demolished and turned
into a car park or a Supermarket?
My own suggestion is that it should be used
as a day centre for Senior Citizens to meet over tea and biscuits and be able to
promote other activities suited to their generation. In the evening the Church
could revert to a youth club for the 16year olds and under for games such as
table tennis etc.
