31. The Gloucester company of Simon-Barron became one of international repute in
milling circles. Originally set up works at Ladybellgate and Kingsholm by
Mr W.S. Barron, the firm came to produce a wide range of millimg and grinding
equipment, much destined for flour mills. In 1932, the works were relocated to a
new 7-acre site along the Bristol Road. In 1934, links with Henry Simon's company
were established and Simon-Barrons Ltd was created. This picture shows the
millstone manufacturing shop in the 1920's in Sweetbriar St. in Kingsholm.
Part of the Kingsholm Primary School's playground ( in 2006 ) now occupies
part of the old site.
32. One of John M. Butt & Co. storm drain covers. By June 2006, 55 of these drain covers
have been found in Gloucester. ( A full list can be found on the Foundry Section of
this site ) All of these drain covers are still in working order after a working life of
nearly 100 years. There are 4 of these drain covers in Deans Walk in Gloucester. It is
noted that the only difference is the name of John M Butt as opposed to J M Butt.
It is assumed that this may have occurred when Mr Alfred Danks took over the John
Butt company sometime around 1923.

40. The front gates of the Cemetery in Tredworth Road. These gates were made by
H.S. Crump's Ironworks in Alvin Street Clapham. They are still in use after 100
years. This picture was taken by Fred Maysey in February 2007. Inside the Cemetery
there can be found some drain covers made by John Butt of Sweetbriar Street
Clapham at roughly the same time as the gates. The drain cover in the main Tredworth
road outside the gates was also made by John Butt.
41. Part of the gates outside the Cemetery in Tredworth Road. The name of H. S. Crump
can be clearly seen on the downward post. Photo again taken by Fred Maysey in February
2007.

47. This photo was on a post card and sent from Gloucester to Tewkesbury in
1909. The picture shows Henry Smith Crump's shop which was situated in
London Rd. Gloucester. The actual position was to the right of the Arches
where Mead and Tomkins car sales showroom used to be. The name
written above the shop windows reads Alvin Iron Works. The rear entrance
from Crump's iron works was in Clarence Row.
48. This was presumably signed by Florrie Redburn when she was a young girl. We are
still investigating this in order to find out what her connections were with the shop
and the Crump Ironworks. The photo on the post card ( 47 ) was probably some sort
of advertizing for the Ironworks and the shop.
