THE VILLAGE BY THE SEA.

From far and wide the Vikings came

To pay homage to their warrior king

Who lay reposed in deathly sleep

In the village by the sea

From mountains dark, from deep valleys green

With golden arrows quivered at their side

One hundred bowmen journeyed

To the village by the sea

The longboat with its oars aloft

Waits patiently in the bay

To carry home, the royal chief

From the village by the sea

High on the cliff, the burning fires

Cast dancing shadows all along the shore

As Viking clans gathered there

Near the village by the sea

Anchor slipped, the longboat drifts towards the sea

War-bows bend and send flaming golden arrows

To arc up through the night

O’er the village by the sea

Then feathered flames plummet from the sky

To light the royal funeral ship

And the Viking war-cry echo through the night

As they left the village by the sea
